These Bible verses remind us that helping others is not only a good thing to do, but it is also something that pleases God.
Proverbs 3:27 ~ "Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act."ġ John 3:17 ~ "If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?" Luke 6:30 ~ "Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back." Galatians 6:10 ~ "Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers." Hebrews 13:16 ~ "And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased." This command in the Old Testament is quoted nine times in the New. By serving those in need, we demonstrate our commitment to God's values and show compassion to those who are less fortunate. Here in James chapter 2 we find this amazing verse, Leviticus 19:18, quoted yet again. Overall, the Bible teaches that helping others is not only a moral obligation but also an expression of faith and love. If one of you says to them, 'Go in peace keep warm and well fed,' but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." In James 2:14-17, it says, "What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. The Bible also emphasizes the importance of generosity and compassion towards others. Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." One of the most well-known passages is found in Matthew 25:35-40, where Jesus says, "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. The Bible has many teachings about the importance of helping others.
